Direct Fire Hated Brewhouse

Here are three popular options for heating a microbrewery brewhouse – electricity, steam and direct fire. A friend from Australia just asked me if the burner we recommended would be suitable for their 2000L brewhouse. The information below has an example to explain this good question.

I’m still using a 2000L brewhouse as an example.
(For a 2000L brewery, we actually recommend steam heating).
Let’s say the burner will heat a 2000L kettle and a 4000L mulled wine tank.
We usually use Baltur burners, which is a well-known brand in Italy – http://www.baltur.cn/cn/en/

We recommend the BTG20, which has a thermal power of 60kw-205kw (we can control the thermal power by controlling the amount of gas inlet).
We consulted the staff of Baltur burner agent in China and learned that the thermal power loss of the burner itself is 10%, so we can conclude that the maximum actual thermal power of the burner is 184kw (205kw X 0.9).

When the burner is heated under the brewery brewhouse, there are two other heat losses: one is the heat loss taken by the air at the vent, and the other is the heat loss when heating through the stainless steel plate, where there is always a heat difference from the flame to the bottom of the stainless steel plate in the brewhouse, and from the bottom of the stainless steel plate to the wort. The total heat loss in these two places is about 10%.

Therefore, when it reaches the wort, the final maximum thermal power is 205KWX0.9X0.9=166KW.

When we heat 4000L of water from 20C to 74C.
(74C-20C)X4200J/KG.CX4000L= time X 166KW X 3.6×10^6
We can get 1.52 hours 81% efficiency
Heating speed. About 0.6C/min

When we heat 2000 liters of wort from 65C to 100C
Similarly, we can get. 0.5 hours 81% efficiency
Heating rate. About 1.16C/min (usually 1C-1.5C is good for heating wort).

The BTG20 is the minimum capacity to heat a 2000 liter brewing chamber.

Another size, the BTG28, has a slightly larger capacity and can be heated faster if necessary, as the BTG28 has a thermal power of 80kw-280kw.
Therefore, the BTG28 is also a good choice for a 2000L brewhouse.
